The Postgraduate Academic Program in Economics (PPGE) is the result of an association with the Center for Regional Development and Planning at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (CEDEPLAR/UFMG). The new Academic Masters in Economics at UFS had its first group in 2015 and its first graduates in 2017. It offers a stricto sensu postgraduate course at the level of Academic Masters in Economics. Institutionalized research activities and teaching at the UFS postgraduate level are planned, promoted and supervised by the Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Research (POSGRAP), observing the guidelines issued by the Teaching, Research and Extension Council (CONEPE), as provided in the general regulations and in the statute of the University and in the applicable legislation

 

Goals
 
1. Create an academic environment suitable for the critical analysis and search for a solution to the economic problems of public management bodies and units and companies, aiming at social and economic transformations compatible with local, regional and national development needs;
 
2. Train graduate professionals for Brazilian universities, research centers, planning institutions and public and private organizations;
 
3. Train researchers and qualified personnel for higher education, with academic skills focused on economic analysis and intervention;
 
4. Promote exchanges and partnerships with national and international institutions in the search for new content and technologies that favor research and the teaching and learning process.
 
 
Concentration area
 
1. Economic Development - Focused on the different paths of economic development, development policies, as well as regional development.

 

Research lines
 
1. Applied Economics and Development: involves different empirical approaches to studying various aspects of the economy, with emphasis on issues inherent to the process of economic growth and regional development.
 
2. Social Economy and Development: study of the relationship between development and society, with theoretical and/or empirical emphasis on socioeconomic, state and public policy problems.

A little more about the PPGE
 
The PPGE it is the only Academic Master's program in Economics in the State of Sergipe. It has graduated students from all over the country and has contributed significantly to research at different levels, especially at the regional level, in partnership with state and national funding agencies. The program lasts 24 months and to obtain a Master's degree in Economics, regular students must meet certain prerequisites: (1) 34 credits in disciplines, totaling 510 hours/class, (2) proficiency in a language, (3) Internship in teaching (scholarship students), (4) Article submission to a journal in the area, (5) Dissertation qualification exam, and (6) Dissertation defense.

 

 

What are the requirements to join the course?
 
To join the program, the candidate must comply with the stages of the selection process of the National Association of Graduate Studies in Economics (ANPEC). Enrollment is annual, regulated by Public Notice, Candidate Manual and its own calendar. In general, registrations take place in June and July, and tests in September. Exams are held in Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Mathematics, Statistics, English, and for the PPGE, the Brazilian Economics exam is also required.
