The Postgraduate Program in Agriculture and Biodiversity (PPGAGRI) (Resolution Number 10/2013/CONEPE) (http://www.posgraduacao.ufs.br/ppgagri), at Master’s and Doctorate levels, has been approved by CAPES, in the CTC meeting that was held between 9 – 11 December 2013, with score 4. It is the result of a fusion of the Masters Program in Agro-ecosystems and the Masters Program in Biotechnology of Natural Resources. It aims to create a stronger and more consolidated Postgraduate Program. This Postgraduate Program is based on an interdisciplinary work, which is grounded on knowledge in the Agricultural and Biological Science areas and in the development of studies on sustainable development in the Northeast of Brazil. Degrees offered by PPGAGRI: Master of Science, and Doctor of Science.

The research lines are:

1) Genetics Resources, Biodiversity and Bioprospection.

Description: To develop research focused to the areas of conservation, characterization and sustainable use of genetic resources and the improvement of plants and animals; bioprospection, and characterization of genes, proteins, microorganisms and natural and/or synthetic composts with potential use in agriculture, animal husbandry and human health.

2) Sustainable Technologies, Management and Restoration of Ecosystems.

Description: To develop research focused to the areas of post harvest physiology, control and management of plagues and diseases of cultivated plants, generation and/or deployment of technologies, which contribute to a higher technical and economical efficiency of agricultural production systems in consonance with conservation of species, soil and water, and restoration of degraded areas.

The Postgraduate Program in Agriculture and Biodiversity offers courses under the following degrees: Master in Science, and Doctor in Science.

The specific objectives are:

1. Deepen the competence acquired from the experience at undergraduate courses, developing domain in agriculture and biodiversity, in the field of Agricultural and Biological Sciences.

2. Grouping the local, regional and national potentialities, with the objective to develop diverse competence, experience, and formation to deal with scientific and technological procedures in the field of agriculture and biodiversity.
