Presentation:

The Postgraduate Program in Science of Intellectual Property is a result of more than six years of activities related to that area. Prior to the beginning of the program, its faculty had already been committed to activities which brought development and growth to the region. They also develop teaching, research and extension activities articulated with CINTEC, Rede NIT-NE, CAPACITE, SIBRATEC, MITES, among others.

Thus, UFS innovates by creating Master’s and Doctorate courses in Intellectual Property to train human resources to act in the teaching field at Higher Education Institutes, and as agents of local and regional development. The course has got CAPES grade 4.

General Objectives:

Enable students to deal with theoretical/practical issues of technological foundation as well as to build knowledge to promote research and teaching applied to different areas, reinforcing the culture of research in the field of intellectual property at the university.

Professional Profile:

PPGPI aims to qualify students to act professionally in the solution of technology based problems, in an environment of research and development of projects on intellectual property. Students are expected to have acquired a critical and investigative posture related to issues linked to intellectual property and to regional development that will help them deal with diverse realities in different contexts. The training of researchers must also enable them to apply knowledge into diverse realities, leading to studies about different contexts. These professionals should be able to work for private or public organizations that deal with research and planning, such as departments of development and planning, in order to help support managerial actions.

They are expected to be capable of reflecting upon and organizing knowledge on variables that are part of the technological development process, in order to support the action of public or private institutions that act in the region and to find conceptions and paradigms suitable for the region’s reality.

Students can also work in the teaching field at higher education level, mediating the teaching-learning process concerning themes involved in the program. It is possible for the student to teach at undergraduate and lato sensu postgraduate courses, teaching Masters subjects, as well as to participate in research and university extension activities.
