Presentation 

Material Science and Engineering is well-known for being an area directly associated with the conception of new materials. It is grounded in the central combination between composition and microstructure. This combination can accredit new properties to materials, comparatively to existing ones.

The introduction of these new materials in such distinct areas as aeronautics, electronics, health, energy, leisure, and sports, defined the beginning of this century. Metals, ceramics, and polymers are, today, undoubtedly, the key to humanity’s development in the third millennium. 

 The postgraduate program in material science and engineering can be directed to:

- Academic research and teaching;

- Industrial research and development;

- Application of advanced knowledge in practical and real problems in engineering  

There are opportunities to:

- Development or optimizing of a material: ceramics, metal, polymer or composite;
- Development or optimizing of a synthesis technology, processing and characterization of materials;

- Study of a particular application or a specific engineering problem: analyses of errors in materials and components, specific application in health, energy, and construction, among others.
